NEWS FROM THE Y

Teen FacesAfternoons R.O.C.K. In Indiana

The Y runs an “Afternoons R.O.C.K. in Indiana” program, in collaboration with La Porte Community Schools, as part of our commitment to serving the teen community. The R.O.C.K. program is an afterschool drug prevention program that educates teens on the results of using alcohol, tobacco, and illegal drugs, and also allots time for homework, multi-cultural activities and games. Healthy snack, such as fruit kabobs, chips and salsa, yogurt and granola bars, are served daily. The program is free of charge and is available to all 10-14 year olds that attend the school in session. Everyone who completes the program also receives a special completion prize (gift cards, DVDs, back packs, t-shirts, etc.) as well as daily incentives. Programs this winter will be held at Boston and Kesling middle schools. Watch for more details!

Funded by SAMHSA Block Grant CFDA 93.959 through FSSA/Division of Mental Health and Addiction. The Problem Gambling Prevention portion of this program is funded by Problem Gambler’s Assistance Fund, through FSSA/Division of Mental Health and Addiction.

Our Teen Center offers a place to hang out after school, with regular hours from 3-7 p.m. Monday through Friday. We have air hockey, ping pong, pool, Xbox 360 Kinect, Nintendo Wiis and food. We will also be offering open mic nights for teen musicians, video game tournaments, board game nights, dances, intramural sport leagues and a whole lot more!
