STRENGTHENING COMMUNITY IS OUR CAUSE

The La Porte County Family YMCA is a leading nonprofit for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. We are a powerful association of men, woman and children of all ages and from all walks of life joined together by a shared passion: to strengthen the foundations of our community.

With a commitment to nurturing the potential of kids, promoting healthy living and fostering a sense of social responsibility. Our Y ensures that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. To do our important work, our Y relies on support from members, donors, volunteers and community leaders.

Our Y believes that lasting personal and social change can only come about when we all work together to invest in our kids, our health and our community. Every day our impact is felt when a mentor inspires a child, when an individual makes a healthy choice and when the community comes together for the common good.

Our Y is, and always will be, dedicated to building healthy, confident, connected and secure children, adults, families and communities. There is no other nonprofit quite like the Y. Be a part of a cause committed to moving people and communities forward.

FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

Nurturing the potential of every child and teen.
We believe the values and skills learned early on are vital building blocks for life. Because of the Y, more young people in neighborhoods around the nation are taking a greater interest in learning and making smarter life choices. At the Y, children and teens learn values and positive behaviors. They also get the chance explore their unique talents and interests, helping them realize their potential. That makes for confident kids today and contributing and engaged adults tomorrow.

Child Care and Learning Center

Nearly 25 years ago, the Y was given the opportunity to take over a failing daycare center in need of major updates. Since then, we have made a variety of improvements to the center including doubling its size, obtaining state licensing and National Early Childhood Program Accreditation (NECPA) and securing the highly regarded Creative Curriculum for our preschool-aged students. Our CCLC serves up to 142 children from 6 weeks to 6 years old, and is currently the only childcare site in the City of La Porte with a Level 4 Paths to QUALITY rating – the highest level in the State of Indiana.

Preschool
At our La Porte Branch and Prairie View preschools, 3, 4 and 5 year-olds learn important kindergarten readiness skills. Our curriculum incorporates letters, numbers, music, art and fun-filled field trips.

Educare

With full and half-day options plus before/after school care available, our Michigan City Educare program provides 3, 4 and 5 year-olds with a safe place to learn and play throughout the entire work day. We operate Educare classrooms at Pine and Springfield elementary schools, with bus service provided to children in the districts for six different Michigan City area elementary schools.

Before/After School Care

Students at Westville, South Central and Rolling Prairie elementary schools can end their day enjoying games, crafts and homework help. Our Rolling Prairie program is also operates before school and serves students from Prairie View and Olive elementary schools.

Day Camp

Our summer and school year day camps offer programming for school age children during times that school is not in session. By incorporating STEM activities, sports, crafts and more, we ensure our campers are learning and having fun! Our summer camp program also includes plenty of time outside, with campers transported daily between our La Porte/Michigan City Elston branches and our Andrew Avenue Outdoor Center.
